How Thermage® works
Thermage consists of a handpiece that sends a radio frequency current
deeply into the skin and heats the superficial and deep dermis. The
tissue's natural resistance to the flow of ions, whose orientation is
dependent on an enormous number of changes in the electric field
caused by the radiofrequency current, achieves this deep heating.
As a result, the collagen is heated and it contracts and the fibroblasts in
the skin start producing additional collagen. Spray cooling protects the
skin.
Recently, in order to get better results with less pain, the protocol has
been modified. We are using multiple passes at lower power. The 3
square centimeter tip allows for faster coverage of larger areas per unit
of time.
Other than rare cases of temporary redness and swelling (less than 1
week's duration) we have seen no side effects. Others have reported
small localized thinning of the underlying fat. It resolves on its own in a
few months. We use no anesthetic or sedation. In fact we utilize the
onset of pain as a signal to start lowering the power.
Sometimes the improvement is immediately noticeable but often it takes
up to 6 months to see the optimum benefit. With the new protocol, 95%
of patients are pleased with the results.

Eyes by Thermage
Eyes by Thermage has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of
wrinkles of the upper and lower lids.
Eyes by Thermage reduces hooding of the upper lids and produces a
tighter, smoother look of the upper and lower lids.
It can improve the dark under eye circles. The same monopolar radio
frequency current is used as in the treatment of the cheeks and jowls to
heat the collagen. A plastic shield protects the eye.
Pain: Minimal
Price: $1300.00
Tummy by Thermage
The monopolar radiofrequency deep heating of the skin can help some people who have loose, sagging and wrinkled abdominal skin.
While it cannot remove fat, it can help define the contour of the abdomen by itself, or following liposuccion. With proper patient selection, the abdominal perimeter can be reduced by 1" to 3".
Thermage treatment can also be very useful in reducing the sagging and wrinkling that often occurs following pregnancy and even following weight loss.
Pain: The pain factor has been reduced recently by using multiple passes at lower power.
Price: $3000.00 to 4000.00 depending on the surface area.
If a repeat treatment is necessary, the fee varies between $1500.00 and $2500.00 .
Cellulite by Thermage
Cellulite is a rather common condition of middle age, mostly in women.
The buttocks and thighs are primarily affected.
There are lumps alternating with dells caused by uneven accumulation and herniation of fat lobules, separated by fibrous bands.
Several devices have been marketed to treat cellulite.
None of them, including Thermage, does a perfect job.
Most of them require repeated treatments, sometimes as many as 8 or more.
Thermage tightens the skin fairly uniformly, including the areas where the fat is herniating. Thus, in addition to reducing the diameter and circumference of the thighs and buttocks, it can reduce the lumpiness of cellulite. One treatment usually suffices.
Pain: Minimal
Duration:1:1/2 to 2 hours, depending on the total treated area.
Price: $3000.00 to $4000.00
