The Apogee Alexandrite 5500 is one of the most reliable lasers to combat unwanted dark hairs and dark spots on the skin, such as freckles, sunspots, melasma or age spots.

The Alexandrite (Alex) laser uses a 755 nm wavelength, which is absorbed highly by melanin in the skin and hair follicles. The Alex laser works by emitting powerful laser energy into the targeted tissue ( pigmented lesion or hair follicle) that causes subsequent lightening to the lesions and destruction of the follicle without damaging the neighboring tissue.

For laser hair reduction 4-8 treatments may be necessary as the laser is only able to destroy hair follicles that are in the active growth phase. Hairs grow in three cycles, several treatments are needed to adequently catch different hairs in the active cycle. After each treatment you will notice finer, lighter hairs with a slower re-growth to each area treated.

The Alex laser works best in lighter skin patients, but is safe in darker skin types as well. Pigmented lesions may also require multiple treatments depending on how dark they are. The lesions will appear lighter after each treatment and may appear smaller in size.
