Increased incidence of Basal Cell Carcinomas in sun tanners

Previous studies have demonstrated an increased incidence of Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Malignant Melanomas in tanning bed users.

Now, a recent article shows an increase of early onset (before age 40) of Basal Cell Carcinomas among users of tanning beds. This increase is more marked in women (40%) than in men (27%). These cancers were mostly located on the trunk and limbs.

Although rarely fatal, except in very widespread and invasive cases, Basal Cell Carcinomas can be very destructive.
