Previous studies have demonstrated an increased incidence of Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Malignant Melanomas in tanning bed users.
Now, a recent article shows an increase of early onset (before age 40) of Basal Cell Carcinomas among users of tanning beds. This increase is more marked in women (40%) than in men (27%). These cancers were mostly located on the trunk and limbs.
Although rarely fatal, except in very widespread and invasive cases, Basal Cell Carcinomas can be very destructive.(Journal of the American Journal of Dermatology December 2011)"
