Partially Hydrolyzed Formula prevents Atopic Eczema

A large statistical analysis combining 18 studies involved approximately 1000 infants. It showed that infants having a family history of eczema or allergies (Asthma, Hay Fever, etc) fed partially hydrolyzed whey protein formula had a significantly lesser risk of developing eczema than infants fed cow's milk based formula. (Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition 2010 Apr; 50:422)

A reviewer of this article suggests that since this reduction in risk persisted up to 3 years, it may mean that this type of formula actually prevents rather than delays the onset of atopic eczema in a percentage of patients.
