Patients with a deficient epidermal protein (Filaggrin) often present with very dry skin (Ichtyosis: Fish skin) and eczema. This is because the Filaggrin molecule contributes to the Barrier function of the Epidermis.It has recently been found that these patients are also at higher risk for Asthma and Hay Fever in the absence of adequate treatment of the eczema.
