Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatment Chicago

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common type of skin cancer. Like BCC’s, these lesions are most commonly found on sun-exposed skin. They may arise de novo or from pre-existing actinic keratoses. Although SCCs rarely spread, they can be locally destructive and lead to disfigurement if untreated. Certain locations such as mucosal surfaces and the ear do have a higher rate of metastasis (spreading to lymph nodes and/or other organs) and require prompt intervention.

Possible treatments:

Surgical excision with a margin of normal skin

Mohs micrographic surgery

Radiation treatment
