Malignant Melanoma
Malignant melanoma (MM) is a life-threatening malignancy that can occur in any tissue that has melanocytes (cells that produce pigment), most commonly the skin. MM may arise in previously normal skin or within pre-existing moles. It can occur on any skin surface, though the back and legs seem to be preferentially affected in men and women, respectively.
Factors that predispose to MM include ethnicity and other hereditary factors, a personal or family history of melanoma, cumulative lifetime sun exposure, having many moles, having atypical moles, and other unknown factors.
Treatment of MM is absolutely essential and should not be delayed
