Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis Pilaris is a very common skin condition. It consists of fine scales protruding out of the hair follicles.
The most common location is on the posterior arms. The thighs are also often affected. In severe cases, the trunk can also be involved.
More rarely, the face can be involved, with fine plugs in the hair follicles. A blotchy redness can be present in many such cases. It resembles Rosacea, but unlike Rosacea, it is very resistant to treatment.
At Lakeview Dermatology we have started treating patients with this type of red Keratosis Pilaris (Keratosis Pilaris Rubra) with the Diolite Laser, a 523nm wave length Diode Laser. By sweeping the involved area several times with the Laser beam "Spray Painting" the area) the redness fades. Patients are very pleased.
