Cysts
Most cysts are sacs of tissue containing either oil and skin debris (i.e. epidermal or “sebaceous cysts”) or sweat and hair follicle remnants (i.e. pilar cysts on the scalp). These cysts are very common and can easily be removed during a 1-hour in-office surgical procedure. Occasionally, cysts may become infected and require incision and drainage with or without oral antibiotics.
Mucinous cysts can occur around the fingernails. Most of the time they can be treated successfully with steroid injections. However, some cases may require surgery.
Possible treatments:
surgical excision
steroid injections
