Surgeon General warns: skin cancer rampant!

Between 1950 and 2007, the melanoma rate rose 17 fold for men  (33.5 per 100,000) and 9 fold for women (25.3 per 100,000). In 2014, one person in 50 will be diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma.
The other common types of skin cancer  have also markedly grown in frequency.
Based on these facts, the Surgeon General of the United States has issued a call for action to prevent  skin cancer.

Acne scars and wrinkles treatment with Artefill®

Acne scars and wrinkles treatment with Artefill® - Chicago Dermatologist ArticleAcne scars and wrinkles treatment with Artefill® - Chicago Dermatology ArticleArtefill® is the only FDA-approved permanent cosmetic injectable for treatment of nasolabial folds. Achieve PERMANENT correction of these indicators of aging during a safe and convenient office visit.

Artefill® is composed of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in purified bovine collagen. PMMA has been safely used for 6 decades in implantable medical devices. Because of potential allergy to the bovine collagen component, a small skin test is required 4 weeks prior to treatment. If the skin test is negative, treatment may proceed. Many patients do require a second treatment for optimal correction a few weeks after the first, but the results are then permanent!

Rhinophyma treated with CO2 Laser Surgery

Rhinophyma treated with CO2 Laser Surgery - Chicago Dermatologist ArticleRhinophyma treated with CO2 Laser Surgery - Chicago Dermatology ArticleRhinophyma is a large, bulbous, ruddy nose caused by granulomatous infiltration, commonly due to untreated rosacea. In extreme cases of long lasting, untreated Rosacea, the distal half of the nose or the entire nose becomes bulbous, irregularly and asymmetrically enlarged, sometimes to an extreme degree (as in the accompanying photos).
We have treated several cases of Rhinophyma with the electrosurgery followed by Laser Resurfacing, with very good results.
